Cohasset Democratic Town Committee Encourages Rep. Stephen Lynch to Attend Forum

At its July 2020 meeting, the Cohasset Democratic Town Committee voted to sign on to a letter co-signed by various local Democratic Town Committees, asking Representative Stephen Lynch to accept the invitation of the League of Women Voters to participate in a forum for the Democratic primary candidates for the 8th Congressional District.

The letter reads as follows:

“Dear Representative Lynch:

We represent Democratic Town Committees and Wards in your district, MA-8. We are writing to ask that you accept the invitation of the League of Women Voters to a forum of the two candidates on the primary ballot in the district.

While there are many reasons why well-organized forums are beneficial, for us there are three key reasons:

  • As leaders in our communities for the Democratic Party, we have a responsibility to make voters aware of Democrats running for office.

  • The voters in our district want to hear their representatives address the issues that are important to us.

  • An open, robust exchange among the candidates on the ballot, and of the issues facing our district and our nation, is the best tool we have to educate and engage voters in the electoral process.

The League of Women Voters is widely respected for its experience in hosting balanced, informative political forums. We are grateful they have offered to host a primary forum in our district. We hope that you will welcome this opportunity to share your record of representing our district and your plans for the future.

We sincerely request that you accept the League of Women Voters forum invitation.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Tuffy, Chair, Braintree Democratic Town Committee

Alicia Gardner, Chair, Quincy Democratic City Committee
